Gravity with Scalar Field in Four Dimensions
We give all the exact solutions of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Field Equations coupled with a scalar field in four dimensions under certain assumptions.
متن کاملGravity and the Tenacious Scalar Field
Abstract Scalar fields have had a long and controversial life in gravity theories, having progressed through many deaths and resurrections. The first scientific gravity theory, Newton’s, was that of a scalar potential field, so it was natural for Einstein and others to consider the possibility of incorporating gravity into special relativity as a scalar theory. This effort, though fruitless in ...
متن کاملInduced Gravity I: Real Scalar Field
We show that classically scale invariant gravity coupled to a single scalar field can undergo dimensional transmutation and generate an effective Einstein-Hilbert action for gravity, coupled to a massive dilaton. The same theory has an ultraviolet fixed point for coupling constant ratios such that all couplings are asymptotically free. However the catchment basin of this fixed point does not in...
متن کاملScalar field mass in generalized gravity
The notions of mass and range of a Brans-Dicke-like scalar field in scalar-tensor and f(R) gravity are subject to an ambiguity that hides a potential trap. We spell out this ambiguity and identify a physically meaningful and practical definition for these quantities. This is relevant when giving a mass to this scalar in order to circumvent experimental limits on the PPN parameters coming from S...
متن کاملDilaton Gravity with a Non-minimally Coupled Scalar Field
We discuss the two-dimensional dilaton gravity with a scalar field as the source matter. The coupling between the gravity and the scalar, massless, field is presented in an unusual form. We work out two examples of these couplings, and solutions with black-hole behaviour are discussed and compared with those found in the literature.
